Review: Bit Blanket
Around Thanksgiving I entered a contest online. The question was “how are you thankful for your horse?”. And you had to submit a funny photo of your horse to go along with it. My response:
“My horse makes me thankful for each moment I’m able to spend with him doing what I love! He’s taught me responsibility, humility, perseverance and to avoid taking life too seriously. Even after 16 years, we still make a pretty good team!”
A few weeks later, I found out we’d won the contest! We received our Bit Blanket and an awesome gift card in the mail right before we left town to visit family for Christmas. I was sad that I didn’t get a chance to try it before we left, but I finally had the opportunity when I got back. I used it twice over the past week and it’s awesome! I’ve used a few similar products – and even a heating pad – but this is by far the best. Why? Well, it’s designed to fit the size of your bit with heating elements on all sides and the velcro closure keeps it nice and snug. The cord was long enough to reach my wall outlet from the stall’s halter/bridle hook. And the entire products is very durable! It’s meant to be used in a barn with all the dirt that goes along with it and it wipes clean very easily.
I just hung up my bridle, attached the Bit Blanket and went off to groom and saddle up. I typically take at least 30 minutes to groom and tack up, but I try to take my time and make it relaxing for Dancer. I normally use some sort of massage curry comb, which also removes the caked on mud! I’ve always gotten compliments from my trainers on my pre-lesson grooming, and it’s something Dancer and I both enjoy. (Side note: I might also be a little OCD about it. But I just can’t stand matted coats and tails with bedding stuck inside them!)
Anyway, back to the Bit Blanket… the first time I removed the bit I was pleasantly surprised that it was just the right temperature. Not too warm, but definitely warm enough. Dancer also seemed to appreciate it and accepted the bit right away. I definitely recommend this product to every rider! It’s small enough to store in your tack box and is worth every penny!
