DIY Beaded Bubble Wands
Summer is in full swing and we’ve been having fun with lots of water play and outdoor sensory bins. My daughter loves bubbles and we have various wands that have been included with bubble containers, but I thought it might be fun to make our own. I’d seen the cute beaded bubble wants all over Pinterest for years but now that she’s a little older, she can help me with the beading portion. If you’d like to make your own bubble wands, here’s what you’ll need:
- 16 or18-gauge round wire
- plastic or glass beads – variety pack | fun bead set | letter beads
- needle nose pliers (with a wire cutter)
- bubble solution
That’s it! A lot of people use either pipe cleaners or the green floral wire, but I decided to go with something a bit thicker. It’s harder to bend, but I think it will hold up a lot better to regular use. The first thing you want to do is decide how big to make your circle for the bubbles. We went with something around 4″ and it’s been a good size. Form the circle with the wire and then wrap about an inch or less around and trim the excess. We chose a larger bead for the first one so that it would help cover up any sharp edges. Hattie’s favorite color is purple, so she chose mostly purple beads, some horse beads, and letter beads to spell her name. We went with plastic beads because they’re more durable and I already had a lot of leftovers from other projects. After the handle part is done, take your needle nose pliers and turn a tight circle to wrap the wire back around. Next, wrap the wire around the handle portion a few times and be sure to clamp it tight so there aren’t any sharp edges. We use a larger plastic storage container for our bubble solution and it worked great. Our favorite bubble solution is the Sun Squad brand from Target, which comes in a large bottle.
We haven’t tried any of the other bubble recipes on Pinterest, but I think we might try the bouncing bubbles sometime soon. Let me know if you have any favorite recipes that we should try!
