Behind The Brand: See Horse Design
As I sat writing my last post about all of the crazy rain we’ve had, I was also in the midst of setting up my first personal office. I had been saving pins forever on a private Pinterest board, but with all of the craziness of moving, starting a new part-time office job as a designer, and then the massive amounts of rain, the office became more of a storage area for us. My desk was a glorified file cabinet and empty frame holder. It wasn’t pretty.
So after my brother & sister-in-law announced they’d be bringing their 2 kiddos and staying with us a few weeks ago, I figured I’d better get to work! Not to mention finishing the guest room – which was the “stuff we don’t want to unpack, sort or deal with at the moment” room. Nothing like company coming to give you the motivation you need to clean and organize the house! I started going through my gigantic Pinterest board and realized I may be a little obsessed with work spaces and vintage office supplies. I love looking at the spaces other creatives work in and finding little thing that I could connect with. This is what prompted my idea for this post.
Here’s my current desk area. Future plans include a bigger monitor (which will fill up the space under my bulletin board), but I’m very happy with my new Macbook at the moment.
Of course, I decided on an Equestrian theme for this space! I love gallery collage walls and I already had over half of these items scattered through our house and some still up in my old room at my parent’s house (like the horse bust I’ve had forever). Some of my favorites from the collection are the black horse painted by my Grandpa for me when I turned 10, the personalized autographs from David O’Connor and Guenter Seidel (after the 1996 Olympics!) and one of Dancer’s old horse shoes that I put in a frame.
I tried to make the wall very personal to me, so each item has meaning behind it. And I added a few quotes, antique carriage horse prints and a very old horse anatomy page from a French book. I love the mix of old and new, and tried to keep the color scheme of mainly reds, mustard yellows and browns so that it all flowed together nicely.
I’ve always been fascinated by old ads and prints, so the final touch was this reproduced horse show poster from 1947.
Having my own work space has made such a difference in my productivity and I’ve really enjoyed having an entire room full of my favorite equestrian objects. This also makes my husband happy because all the majority of my horsey items are in one place. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t keep trying to sneak a little equestrian style into the other rooms of the house!
Are there any other equestrians out there who bring their equine style in to the office? I’d love to see them!
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

I absolutely love your old/new asthetic! And the finding peices with meaning behind hem to display is something that I love to do myself. Also, I especially love the leather detail on your shelves.

Thanks Abby! I think we have a lot in common! I found the shelves at Urban Outfitters last year, but there are tutorials on Pinterest that show you how to make a similar version using old belts. I had planned to make some before I found these!
