An Ode to Crochet Gloves
You might think that if you’ve worn one crochet glove, you’ve worn them all. I’m here to tell you, my friend, that crochet gloves are not all created equal! I tried my first pair, by Mountain Horse, around 11 years ago and even with regular use (multiple rides per week, barn chores, etc…) they’ve lasted until now! They’re actually still perfectly good gloves! No rips, tears or any major issues. The problem is that they’ve stretched a bit over the years and the leather isn’t as tacky as it used to be. Not so great for gripping the reins. Still good for barn chores though!
So when I finally came to terms with the fact that these have to be replaced, I borrowed a few from my trainer to “test drive” other types and brands. I liked them OK, but they just didn’t fit like…well…a glove! I looked at some reviews online and couldn’t quite make up my mind. I decided to go with a cheaper pair and add it on to my SmartPak delivery for the time being. Big mistake! This “brand-that-shall-not-be-named” looked fine when I took them out of the package, but the cut wasn’t quite right. They were a bit snug on the ring fingers, where the rein padding was, and after the first ride I had major blisters! And my hand was dyed black!! One of the kids at the barn actually exclaimed “what happened to your HANDS?!” when I got back to the barn. haha!
I decided to stick it out for another week or two, which was definitely not a wise decision. After I had already been through 2 rides on a particular afternoon, the gloves were a bit sweaty. (I know, gross…) I grabbed them on my way out of the barn and tried to shove my fingers inside when all of the sudden…rip!! The underside of the wrist area ripped all the way across. Great, now what was I gonna do? As my trainer and I laughed about this misfortune, I reluctantly swung up for my last ride of the day. The glove barely survived, but I decided that this was the last straw!
I promptly ordered a new pair of Mountain Horse crochet gloves and my fingers have been happy ever since!

I’ve wondered about crochet gloves…never tried them. they seem comfortable. How fast do they dry out typically?

i’ve had mine for 4 years and still enjoy them

They are very comfortable, and the crochet top is really breathable which I like – especially for summer! They usually dry out completely in about 20-30 mins but that’s after multiple rides on a hot day. I hope that helps!
